We wrap up our debut week with an interview with director Sacha Gervasi about his documentary, ANVIL! THE STORY OF ANVIL.

I’ve never been a major metal-head — my musical tastes in the late seventies/early eighties skittered between Genesis and Elvis Costello — so the likes of a seminal Canadian metal band, formed by Steve “Lips” Kudlow and Robb Reiner, never came to my notice. Given their present obscurity, the glaring ubiquity of Spinal Tap (whose members are presently touring with an “unplugged” version of their music), and the spooky parallels between the two, I was initially dubious about the reality of the band. A few minutes watching ANVIL! swept all doubts away: These guys are for real, and their story makes for a very entertaining documentary.

I got to spend an engaging few minutes with Gervasi, in which we talked about his uncommon history with Anvil, the trials of shooting on the road, and what he has planned next.
